Summer Strider Program (Pilot)

Ages: 2.5-4; Coed

Program Info:

The Strider Pilot Program is designed for beginner and intermediate striders looking to improve skills and foster connections through a team environment. A basic level of strider experience is required to participate in the program.

Skills covered during practice will include, but are not limited to:

  • Controlled starting and stopping

  • Balancing on two wheels

  • Ascending/descending small features (i.e. rhythms/whoops, small table-tops, and short hills)

  • Maneuvering around, and up and over, obstacles (cones, tree roots, etc.)

  • Riding in a team setting and trail etiquette

  • Building self-confidence

  • Riding as a group

  • Trail etiquette

Practice Schedule & Locations:

  • Summer session dates: June 10-July 12

    • 6 total sessions: 5 Tuesdays & 1 Saturday (July 12)

    • Tuesday practices 5:00pm-6:00pm, Saturday: 10:00am-11:30am

  • Locations including: Cottonwood Glen Park (near Pineridge Natural Area), other city parks/areas in and around the Poudre River & Spring Creek Trail Corridors, Lory State Park, New Belgium Brewery, and others TBD

Riders must:

  • Ride a push bike or strider bike-no pedals or training wheels allowed; It is your responsibility to ensure it is safe and operable prior to the start of the program.

  • Be capable of communicating needs to their coaches

  • Follow simple instructions

  • Have a safe, properly fitted helmet, closed-toe shoes, a backpack to carry water+snack; Gloves & eye protection encouraged but optional; Pants and long sleeves recommend for scrape prevention/sunscreen

  • Expect to ride on packed dirt, loose dirt/gravel, paved and other surfaces

  • Be a cooperative, positive group member and ready to have fun with other kids on bikes, and otherwise!

  • Note: Parents required to stay on site/available during practices but will not be participating with the ride groups.

  • Program Cost: $90.00 + processing fees per rider

  • Program size: 10 riders

  • Parents may not ride along with their riders’ unless they are in an official volunteer role

  • Parent introduction meeting to occur at the first practice

  • Program will end with a social gathering at the final practice at Lory State Park
