Spring Mountain Unicycle Program

Overview

The mountain unicycle (muni) program is for athletes interested in mountain unicycling. No previous muni experience is required. However, due to the nature of off-road unicycling, some specific skills are needed (see Athletes Must section).

Muni is the most popular unicycle discipline in the western United States. It is an exhilarating “flow state” sport that requires mental discipline and physical fitness. Indeed, many of the cognitive skills honed by mountain unicycling can be transferred to other sports, such as rock climbing, alpine skiing, and downhill mountain biking.

Athletes Must

  • Have the ability to unicycle 100 yards (i.e., a football field) on flat ground without dismounting

  • Have the ability to free-mount somewhat consistently, at least 75% of the time or more

  • Have a 24” or larger mountain-specific unicycle. A limited number of 24” unicycles can be borrowed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

  • Have a safe, properly fitted helmet, gloves, knee pads, and weather-appropriate clothing, including a raincoat and layer when appropriate + a way to carry these items as well as a spare tube, multi-tool, and a pump or CO2.

  • Weather can be variable, so it is critical that athletes have the proper gear (including helmets, gloves, and kneepads for every ride). Otherwise, they will not be able to ride.

  • Abide by the Code of Conduct and be a cooperative, positive group member, ready to have fun with others on unicycles, and otherwise!

Program Schedule

  • Spring Session Dates: March 30-May 2, 2026

  • Two days per week: Monday (5:00 PM - 6:30 PM) and Saturday (8:00 AM - 11:00 AM)

  • Weeknight practices are held within Fort Collins and the greater area, including Lory State Park, Horsetooth Mountain Park, etc.

  • Weekend practices may be held at locations outside of the Fort Collins area, including as far as e.g., Red Feather Lakes & Curt Gowdy State Park
